Although this mid-century split-level home was well preserved, and sited in a great neighbor-hood, the main entertaining space didn't work at all. Our clients are a family of five with a large contingent of extended family members and friends. Their specific needs included more floor area, two dining areas, an in-kitchen desk, provision for multi-person cooking and interesting lighting solutions. Our solution was to add a simple rectangle to the back of the house to contain the new spaces. The barrel vault ceiling helps delineate and unify the new addition. High windows and french doors open to the beautiful backyard view, while carefully placed skylights and transom windows allow for specific light and views.
