The owners of this early 1970's tract home in the East Bay asked us to "re-envision" their Master Suite, disenchanted with the existing clutter of dark wood moldings, wainscoting and tile. His background is in industrial design and they both had preferences for clean lines and natural warm materials. We added the space from an adjacent bedroom to the Master, removed all non-bearing walls, and captured the attic volume. The final design incorporates built-in cabinets that replace all of the typical bedroom furniture pieces. The custom designed bed has many and varied storage spaces and the cabinet between the bathroom and sleeping area replace the dresser, bookcase and a/v cabinet. The materials are maple, limestone and stainless steel.
