Process: Terrace House

The successful development of any good building is grounded in a nuanced process.

It ultimately begins with the owner; one of their first steps is to select an architectural team whose input will not only guide the design rationale but define how it will function. The builder is also essential, and a compelling collaboration between the architect, owner and builder is the foundation of any great project.

The process is deeply involved. From initial site visits and sketching to permitting and construction, it encompasses many complexities and unknowns. To this end, it takes cooperation, vision, time, patience and, perhaps most importantly, courage.

The following pages illustrate the process for Terrace House. As we progressed from design development to construction, we engaged additional consultants whose dedication and insights greatly contributed to bringing Terrace House to life smoothly and efficiently.
